It's been a while since I've been to Australia. In my early twenties I would go religiously just after doing Christmas with the family here in the United Kingdom. I love the place, the positive mentality, the outdoor life. It's not just the beaches and the wide open spaces that I loved. The fusion of culture's in Sydney was one of the enthusing factors about having a month or so in Australia.

So some 15 or so years later, I finally feel comfortable getting my family on a plane. It's true that it is a long flight but a stop off on the the way in Singapore usually breaks the journey up and makes the experience much more tolerable!

My two kids are very excited, we told them last week that we had booked to go to Sydeny first then up to the Gold Coast to experience the beach life.

I'm using TripTide to get a handle on what's changed and what's new. I haven't booked any accommodation yet and I'm open to recommendations. We are going to be there for 6 weeks. At the start of the trip we're looking to go upmarket on the hotels but during the middle of the trip, we want to bring down the costs a bit. So it's hotels then considering options around a house rental or a villa.
