August is visual arts month in South Australia, and in true South Australian style we’ve got a festival to celebrate that!

SALA Festival is a free open access visual arts festival that transforms all kinds of spaces across metropolitan and regional South Australia like cafes, pubs, foyers, and even a cemetery into exhibition spaces. Since 1998 SALA Festival has celebrated and promoted the talents of South Australian Living Artists and this year SALA Festival 2014 has another fine festival in store.

SALA Festival 2014 offers 547 exhibitions and events featuring over 4,500 artists. Something new to SALA Festival 2014 is a full day panel discussion lead by South Australian artists. Held on Sunday 17 August 2014 and titled Artist’s Voice, discussion and debate topics will cover how artists work, curators and artists – two parts of the whole, artist reflections, and more.

Also featured in SALA Festival 2014 is Open Studio weekend. Visit South Australian artists across the state in their studio spaces and talk with them about their artistic practice. Open Studio weekend is 9-10 August 2014.

If you’re in Adelaide over August in 2014 or beyond then get involved with SALA Festival! Plan your exhibition tour, join in the panel discussion, and explore artist’s studios over Open Studio weekend. Get all the info you need at
