Tasmanian wilderness walking tour, 7 day

This small group walking tour allows you to experience Tasmania’s national parks and UNESCO world heritage areas in style. Stay in deluxe accommodation, allowing you to refresh and revive after your daytime walking adventures. Visit the picturesque cradle mountain national park, granite peaks and white sandy beaches of the east coast, beautiful Maria Island, the rugged Tasman Peninsula and the rainforests of southern Tasmania.


Day 1 – Launceston to Cradle Mountain

Meet your guide at noon to start your journey to UNESCO Word Heritage listed Cradle Mountain National Park. Enjoy an introductory walk in this fascinating alpine environment before settling in at your deluxe accommodation.


Day 2 – Cradle Mountain Alpine Wilderness

Your guide will introduce you to the many endemic fauna and flora species of the region whilst enjoying picturesque views on your walk beneath the spectacular craggy peaks of Cradle Mountain.


Day 3 – Cradle Mountain to Freycinet Peninsula

Depart Cradle Mountain and travel to the East Coast. Visit Marakoopa Caves to admire the fascinating display of glow-worms. Enjoy a short afternoon walk before settling in at your accommodation.


Day 4 – Freycinet Peninsula & Wineglass Bay

Spend the day walking through the National Park’s granite mountains and white sandy beaches. Today you will visit Wineglass Bay, rated one of the top 10 beaches in the world.


Day 5 – Maria Island

Board the ferry in Triabunna and cross the Mercury Passage to Maria Island. With no vehicle traffic, enjoy a day of peaceful walking along historic ruins, sweeping bays, rugged fossil cliffs and imposing mountains. Watch for the island’s resident wombats and kangaroos!


Day 6 – Tasman Peninsula

Today explore the Tasman Peninsula’s interesting coastal geology and the southern hemisphere’s highest sea cliffs. In the afternoon, continue to Tasmania’s capitol city Hobart.


Day 7 – Mt Field National Park

Discover Tasmania’s first National Park which is filled with ancient tall trees, rainforest waterfalls and unique glacier-sculpted landforms which demonstrate Australia’s geological links with Antarctica.
