Canning Stock Route 4WD tag-along tour

We had such a wonderful time on our two Canning Stock Route Expeditions in 2013 that we'll be running two more great Canning adventures in 2014 - a long one and a shorter one! Let our expert guide lead you along "The Loneliest 4WD Track in the World" on a challenging 4WD outback tour in the safety of a small convoy... independent but not alone! Together, we'll explore this historic cattle route & the numerous wells which have been constructed along it. There will be time to take side trips to various points of interest & to relax & enjoy the surroundings. On some occasions we'll spend two nights in one camping area to give everyone a much-needed break and let us fully appreciate this wild and remote area.

As we can't tow our catering trailer over all the sand dunes (unless we wanted to leave it there permanently!) both tours will be self-catering. Included in the package for both tours will be complimentary Welcome and Farewell Dinners, camping fees, the professional services of one of the best Tour Guides in WA who will provide information along the way about the places we visit & mechanical & 4WD assistance (we havea qualified mechanic & an accredited 4WD Trainer);  all the necessary permits; lots of fun activities such as guided walks, star-gazing evenings, bush poetry readings, camp oven cooking & more; plus a comprehensive Pre Departure Workshop and Pre Departure Kit to prepare you for your outback adventure.

Only robust & reliable 4WD vehicles will be allowed to participate (please note that if you are planning to hire a 4WD that most companies will not insure their vehicles to travel on the Canning). For communication purposes, a vehicle-mounted two-way radio with externally mounted antenna is mandatory - BYO or hire one from us. We also strongly suggest a dune flag for each vehicle. You will be required to carry adequate supplies of water, food and fuel as we will need to be completely self-sufficient. Planning and preparation is extremely important & participants will be provided with more information well in advance.

For environmental and track sustainability reasons we will only take a limited number of vehicles on each tour and no camper trailers will be permitted. Sorry, no pets or children under 16. Please note that once we get on the Stock Route there are no showers, shops, cafés, hotels, medical or other facilities & that leaving the tour is not recommended (other than in emergencies).

The Complete Canning Tour - Wells 1-51 (south to north)

Route: Wiluna - Halls Creek

Tour Runs: 4th June 2014 - 24th June 2014

Price: $4200 per vehicle (2 people)

On this life-changing extended outback adventure, we'll travel from south to north from Wells 1 to 51.  We'll cross the Great Sandy Desert, the Little Sandy Desert and parts of the Gibson Desert & in 20 days, we'll cover almost 2000 kms and climb more than 1000 sand dunes. It will be harsh, tough and challenging, but what an amazing experience! The Canning is a fascinating track with more than a century of history & the legends will come alive on this epic journey under the leadership of one of WA's best Tour Guides.

The Top of Canning Tour - Wells 51-33 (north to south)

Route: Halls Creek - Kunawarritji, Carawine Gorge & Marble Bar

Tour Runs: 29th June 2014 - 10th July 2014

Price: $2100 per vehicle (2 people)

This is the ideal outback tour for folks wanting a "taste" of the Canning rather than tackling the entire expedition. Covering just under 1500 kms, the 'Top of the Canning' tour runs from north to south traveling from Wells 51 to 33. We meet up in Halls Creek, visit Wolfe Creek then spend nine great days on the Stock Route before turning off at Kunawarritji (Well 33). We head back to civilisation via beautiful Carawine Gorge where we stop for two memorable nights before saying farewell in Marble Bar.

This 'mini' tour was originally arranged for the travellers who joined us on our May 2013 Canning expedition but were unable to complete it when we had to turn back at Lake Tobin due to unseasonal rainstorms.  Several of these Canning enthusiasts are keen to complete the adventure they started 12 months earlier but hopefully lots of new travellers will join us as well!

Inclusions:

The per person price applies to adults travelling in a self-drive vehicle & includes services of a professional tour guide with expert commentary; camping fees; entry fees to national parks; Welcome & Farewell Dinner at country pubs; Pre-Departure Workshop & Pre Departure Kit. Please note that a robust 4WD, camping equipment and a vehicle-mounted UHF two-way radio are mandatory for this tour. If you don't have your own 4WD, we are happy to arrange a hired 4x4 or 4WD campervan for you at special rates. However, please be aware that most vehicle hire companies will NOT insure their vehicles to travel on the Canning Stock Route, even in a convoy situation. Vehicle numbers are strictly limited on this tour to ensure a quality experience for participants and time for plenty of one-on-one attention.
