A British rugby team minus Ireland first came into existence in 1888 when a 21-man squad visited Australia and New Zealand. Three years later, the Western Province union invited rugby bodies in Britain to tour South Africa, while a British Isles side returned to South Africa in 1896 to play four Tests against their hosts. In 1910 the Irish contingent were incorporated and the modern format took place.

So 125 years later the tour is on again as the Lions take on the might of the Qantas Wallabies. How will they fare – well that all depends on how quickly the team comes together. They will be joined ‘en route’ by some 40,000 travelling supporters who will literally be turning the Aussie stadia into a riot of red, white and green. This group purports to bring the spirit of the ’13 Lions and supporters online.
